Me llamo Julieta. I have 20 years of experience teaching Spanish and Latin American culture in my native Argentina, and in universities and schools on the East Coast and the Pacific Northwest.
My philosophy as an instructor emphasizes mimic, visuals & self-discovery over mechanical translations, and sees grammar as a means, not an end in itself. We don’t spend precious class time doing ditto sheets or following a textbook. Instead, we develop meaningful tools to help us communicate, building upon our mutual input and guided exchanges.
Spanish cannot be separated from the cultures in which it lives, which is why in my classes I use cultural artifacts such as songs, poems, stories and comics of the Spanish-speaking world.
We can meet online or in person. Class materials are provided.
I’m hoping my classes will help connect people across countries and continents in their love for this beautiful language.
¡Gracias y hasta pronto!

Written exchanges Every week, we communicate by email. You pick a topic and send me a letter or essay via email. I read your letter, edit it for grammar and vocabulary, and email you back within a few days. This is a great way to practice your reading and writing skills, and find areas for improvement. If you aren't sure what to write about, I can offer some ideas. This is a great complement to my regular online classes, but you can also choose to do this only. $80/ hour (this equals 2-4 exchanges depending on the length of the exchange; some students prefer short, frequent letters, while others like to write longer but less frequently)
